Electoral System: 

• The President is elected to a four-year term and may run for a single consecutive term. Once a following term has elapsed, a President may run again for another two consecutive terms. If a candidate receives more than 50% of the vote in the first round, they are elected. If this threshold is not met, the two candidates with the most votes participate in a second round, held on the last Sunday of October. 

• The 81 members of the Federal Senate are elected to an eight-year term. Elections are held every four years, so either a third or two-thirds of the Senate is elected at a time. Each of the country’s 27 federative units (the Federal District and each of the 26 states) have three senators. In years where a third of the Senate is elected, voters cast one vote and the candidate who receives a plurality of votes within their state is elected. In years when two-thirds of members are up for election, voters can cast two votes, though not for the same person. Each party can nominate up to two candidates in each state in this cycle. 

• The 513 members of the Chamber of Deputies are elected to a four-year term. They are elected by proportional representation. The number of deputies elected is proportional to the size of the population of the respective state (or Federal District), with the lowest population electing eight and the highest population electing seventy.
