Last Election:

  • Following the annulment of the first election for the president of Maldives held on September 7, 2013 due to irregularities over the voter rolls. A new election was held on November 9, 2013, with Mohamed NASHEED winning 46.93% of the vote, falling short of the absolute majority necessary to avoid a run-off. Although the three candidates had previously accepted moving up the run-off to November 10, 2013 to elect a new president by the constitutional deadline of November 11, 2013, the Supreme Court suspended the runoff and ordered that it be held on November 16, 2013. As such, the second round of elections will take place on November 16, 2013.
