The MPLA party won 175 seats and its leader, incumbent President Jose Eduardo DOS SANTOS retained the presidency. After 38 years in power, DOS SANTOS will not be running for reelection and has selected Defense Minister Joao LOURENCO to succeed him. It is expected that DOS SANTOS will remain leader of the party until 2018.
