Greece Holds First Round of Presidential Election, No Candidate Selected

Dec. 19, 2014, 10:33 a.m.

Located in Europe, Greece has a population of 10,775,557 with approximately 9,951,970 registered voters.[i] Greece’s parliament (Vouli ton Ellinon) votes for the office of the president. Results show that the government’s candidate received 160 votes, thus not reaching the 200 vote’s threshold to be elected.[ii] A second round will be held Tuesday 23 December 2014, in which 200 votes are again needed to elect a president. If no one is selected, a third round will be held Monday 29 December 2014, in which only 180 votes will be required.[iii]
